Multiple academy products featured in Birmingham’s 0-4 defeat at Home to Cardiff City.

It was a fairly impressive start for Birmingham. Amari Miller looked threatening down the left flank, and Ryan Stirk was completely dictating the game.

This came to an immediate halt in the 9th minute, when a shocking back-pass by The Captain for today, Marc Roberts, lead to a superb finish by Harry Wilson into an empty net. Cardiff were ahead.

This had a clear effect on the young Blues squad. From that moment on, we never really recovered much quality.

There were a few odd chances to equalise, such as when Amari Miller pulled the ball back to just inside the box where Ivan Sunjic blazed it over.

Cardiff doubled their lead just before half time, when Harry Wilson bent his free kick around the Blues wall and past Zach Jeacock.

The second half came, and again Blues had a pretty good spell. In about the 55th to 60th minute there was some very good football being played. If Steve Seddon could’ve kept his shot down and pulled one back for Blues, the match might have been a different story.

This again came back to haunt Blues. Welsh u21 player, Mark Harris tidily put away his goal after being substituted on for Keiffer Moore. By this point, the match was finished.

Ivan Sanchez’s appearance off the bench somewhat improved the overall team performance, but not by a huge margin.

The game’s star man, Harry Wilson scored another incredible goal to seal the game, and secure his hattrick.

Bowyer’s men had a couple of near-chances from Gary Gardner and Riley McGree; both via free kicks. However, we couldn’t find a goal today and Cardiff walked away comfortable winners.

The result shouldn’t come as a surprise considering it was a near full strength Cardiff team, meeting a heavily rotated Blues side, that sat 16th in the league table.

Blues will finish their season next Sunday against Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn. You’d imagine that Lee Bowyer will set his team up to make it a much more competitive game than today’s was.
