On Saturday afternoon, Birmingham City will play host to the in form Preston North End.
Lee Bowyer’s Birmingham City will come into this game desperate for success after two heavy defeats. Blues have suffered 4-1 and 3-0 losses against Fulham and Peterborough respectively in their last two fixtures.
The major weakness that has been exposed in these last two matches was the severe lack of pace in Birmingham’s back 3. The titan trio of Marc Roberts, Harlee Dean and Kristian Pedersen are all very strong conventional defenders. However it has been far too easy to get over the top of them recently.
A possible solution to this issue would be bringing in On-loan Wolves defender, Dion Sanderson. Sanderson has plenty of speed in him and is also very assured on the ball, I’d imagine he will be introduced at the weekend.
There’s a good chance that Preston will see this as a winning opportunity given their recent form. The Northern side are unbeaten in their last 7 games in all competitions.
North End had a horrible start to the season, Losing their first 3, but quickly turned it around.
Their are still some issues to be resolved at the club but they might just edge Blues our as favourites in this Championship clash.
I’m expecting a tough and tight-knit match on Saturday with very little between the sides. I think a draw is the most likely result for this one.
Blues 1-1 Preston
Marc Roberts will go down to the wire on whether he will be available for this match after suffering stomach pain against Peterborough. Ivan Sanchez is still a good month away from returning.
Tom Barkhuizen and ex-Villa man Scott Sinclair will be available for this game. Connor Wickham and Matt Olosunde are just two of the Preston players unavailable for Saturday’s match.
